Problem with DSC: files and folder structures are corrupted Posted: 25 Jul 2012 12:19 AM PDT HI All, I have a strange problem with the use of DSC on my App-V 4.6 SP1 client environment. I have an application A which is using another application B to work correctly. So when Application A starts application B also starts. Application B writes down files on the %appdata% folder. Now there was a problem with Application B, so I have resequenced application B with the new changes in it. I changed the OSD files of application A and increased the version numbers so that the App-V client is aware of the upgrade and downloads the new OSD files. Now.. what happens, when I launch Application B by itself it works correctly. When I open a command prompt in the sequence, I see a nice folder structure in the userprofile and all related program files. Now when I open Application A and look at the file and folder structure of Application B in the command prompt, it is a big mess. I don't see any files (Normally I should see 3 by default) ... and sometimes the whole format of the directory looks strange. Also I am not able to add any files or folders in this paticular folder, so this folder seems to be broken. But the program files structure is looking OK, it is only in Appdata where everything is broken. To tell you, during sequencing of Application A there are no references to Application B in the sequence, so the Appdata folder is not there.. The problem now is that every user who had previously used the earlier version of Application B has this problem. Also some new users don't have any issue. But now for the strange thing. I don't get it to work for the other user. When I delete the Softgrid Cache and the registry entries for the useraccount, it doesn't work. When I delete the APPFS Storage of the System, the registry entry state=0 with a reboot and a delete off all the files on the user side. It still doesn't work sometimes for this user, so it is saved on a location where I don't know of :). When another user logs in on exactly the same machine, then there is no problems for him what so ever and that is alsoe strange.. Mostly I get a fixed for the user, but what I need to do is to complex to do in a large enviroment (600 Windows 7 clients) and I still don't know exactly what I need to do get it fixed. I was hoping for some good idea's here :) Thanks This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now
Posted: 24 Jul 2012 03:41 PM PDT Hello all, I'm new to App-V and working on building our my POC environment as we speak. I have a few questions about the App-V Client. 1) How much cache size do I need to allow for the SCCM and App-V Client? 2) What are best practices/processes I should use to deploy the App-V Client? Any guidance n this effort would be much appreciated. 3) I understand that the SCCM client takes control of the App-V Client when you distribute Virtual Application Packages to the target client. What are the key things I need to know about the internals of how this works? 4) Any other general guidance on packaging and deploying the App-V Client and best practices? Thanks in advance! App-V 5.0: Evolving the “Integrated Experience” for Virtual Applications Posted: 24 Jul 2012 10:00 AM PDT I ran the effort to build the original version of App-V at Softricity, the company that Microsoft acquired the product from, almost a dozen years ago, and the 5.0 Beta release represents the most dramatic set of changes to the product since. Much has changed in computer technology of that period, and Microsoft very clearly [...]
