How do I determine what Virtual App is in the softgrid Client folder?

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 02:30 PM PDT

We have a good 30 plus packages that are in any particular folder. See below. If I need to delete a package I have 2 questions.

How do I know which package belongs to which application?

How do delete just that application from the command line?

I have looked online and it says there are a few options. I want to delete the entire package and all user settings for that package. should this do it?

sftmime.exe remove app:"applicationName" /complete

Any help would be great.

App Name from sftcmc.sft uses special characters for spaces

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 04:14 PM PDT

AppV 4.6.1.20870

  • Open the sftcmc.msc console and go to the properties of a particular app that has spaces in it's name.
  • Highlight the name of said app and paste it into notepad.
  • Press enter a few times and then make a space using your keyboard's space bar
  • Highlight this space and paste it into a find window
  • search your document for the space character.  Sometimes the app name with the spaces will not be the same character as the space generated by your keyboard.

I have a package called Accelerated Reader 6.36.  It has 3 apps in.  All three of them have spaces in the application name generated by AppV.  The management one has normal spaces when copied to notepad.  The "Accelerated Reader - Data Doctor 6.36.0.0" app has the problem.  I wouldn't care except that I'm trying to use the app name to publish a new shortcut for this app and the command line doesn't read this special space character properly.  If I replace these special spaces with ones made by the space bar, AppV says it cannot find the app.  The command prompt shows the special space character as an a with an accent on it.  If I copy paste the text from notepad to a command line and then copy the app name from the properties in sftcmc.msc, it works ok.  The point is that going from sftcmc.msc to the copy buffer to the command prompt seems to work ok but going through notepad breaks it.

For reference, here is the command I'm using to publish the shortcut.  I am manually copying the icon to the icon cache before running this command.

sftmime /publish app:"Accelerated Reader - Data Doctor 6.3.6.0" /icon "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Application Virtualization Client\SoftGrid Client\Icon Cache\ARManagement.ico" /target "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Accelerated Reader 6" /display "Accelerated Reader - Management"

I do have 10 of these packages, one for each school and would prefer to not have to remake them so the apps don't have spaces in their names.  I would inject server information, but that requires scripts which our students/staff cannot have access to.  I'm not sure what kind of least access model Softgrid was thinking of when they required scripts to inject information into the virtual layer.

Error XXX39-0000010B "Could not start Microsoft Office Document Cache"

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 02:44 PM PDT

Hi guys,

I have Office 2010 sequenced on APP-V 4.6 SP1 and the application is on production environment, the sequencing process followed was the prescriptive guide of Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2627274).

After a couple of days than the application was put on production, some users started receiving an error when logging

This application "Microsoft Office Document Cache" is configured for start automatically with session (Start Menu>Programs>Startup) as says in the prescriptive guidance

I checked logs for errors but everything looks fine, i tried reinstalling the APP-V Client too without success. The others application are working fine (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc), i don't really get it what can be the issue.

Thanks!

Virtualizing XenApp Hosted Shared Desktops on Hyper-V

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 09:42 AM PDT

My latest adventure into density testing for Citrix solutions centers on XenApp (XA) Hosted Shared desktops. For those unfamiliar with the XA Hosted Shared model, it combines application and session virtualization, relying on a single OS instance on a Citrix XA server to publish familiar Windows desktops and applications. The Hosted Shared model centralizes application delivery and management (securing data and applications in the data…

AppV Client 5.0 Streaming Options

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 07:15 AM PDT

Hi,

can anyone explain me how I can configure the AppV Client, that the AppV-Client doesn't download any data to the Client?

I thought that the benefit of AppV 5.0 is that the applications are live streamed to the client without downloading any data to the client?

AppV 5.0 Beta 2, diffrent streaming of AppV-Apps by 32 and 64 bit client

Posted: 12 Sep 2012 07:00 AM PDT

Hi,

I have a problem with the streaming options of AppV.

I have converted some AppV 4.6 Applications to AppV 5.0, imported the new AppV 5.0 package to the managment server and published this applications to the same active directory group.

Now the problem is that some Application, for example 7zip ore the test package , are only available on my 32 Bit virtual client, if I start my 64 Bit client, 7zip just as some other applications are not streamed and I don't know what I have to configure that this applications are streamed.

Also the testpackage 64 Bit Version of Microsoft Office 15 is not streaming to my 64 Bit virtual client, meanwhile the 32 Bit Version streaming worked fine on the 32 Bit virtual client.

But some other applications 32 Bit applications are only streamed to my 64 Bit client.

If someone can help me with the configuration of the AppV-managment or publishing server or know how I can configure the AppV Client it would be fine:

Thanks
