Video: Tim and 5 other App-V MVPs interviewed by TechTarget’s Colin Steele.

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 08:08 PM PST

In October, we had a group of 6 App-V MVPs together in Boston to meet with the App-V development team. We had an opportunity to shoot an interview at that time with TechTarget's Colin Steele. We were handcuffed in that we couldn't disclose information we knew about (under NDA) the final App-V release, but we [...]

KB: Deleting a package in Microsoft Application Virtualization fails with Error code 0000B005

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 09:05 AM PST

imageHere's a KB we just published that talks about a condition where the status displayed in the FCS Malware Summary report may be a little bit confusing:

=====

Symptoms

When a Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) administrator attempts to delete an old App-V package on an App-V 4.5 SP2 Management server, the operation fails with the following error:
Unexpected error occurred.

Unable to delete the specified application. Please report the following error code to your system administrator.
Error code: 0000B005.

Cause

This can occur if the Application_Usage table is too large (e.g. has millions of rows) and there is an Application record in the Application_Usage table associated to the Application ID of the App-V Package that is being deleted.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, truncate the Application_Usage table or delete the specific Application ID records from the Application_Usage table for the application you wish to delete.
First, check the Message_Log and Application_usage tables to determine if they are too large (have millions of rows). To do this, cut and paste the following script into a SQL query window focused on the AppVirt DB:

select count(*) from MESSAGE_LOG
go
select count(*) from APPLICATION_USAGE
go

If millions of rows are found in either table, backup the App-V database and truncate the tables using the following SQL script focused on the App-V Database. Please be aware that this will remove all data from both tables.

truncate table MESSAGE_LOG
go

truncate table APPLICATION_USAGE
go

App-V 5.0 Management Console HTTP Error 503 (Service Unavailable)

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 08:52 AM PST

Hi all,

I'm having a problem with my App-V 5.0 Management Console. It always result to HTTP error 503 (service unavailable). My setup is Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 CU6.

I assume it's an error on the IIS. I am following the App-V 5.0 Trial Guide. In the guide, there is this step:

  1.      Run the following two commands
    1.      "C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe" –ir
    2.     "C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe" -ir

When I run that though, it says that it is not supported. It says that what I should do is to use Add Roles / Features, which I did (Install Role -> Install IIS -> Install Role Services -> ASP .NET 3.5 and ASP .NET 4.5). Or does this command do a different thing from using the Add Roles / Features?

I'm currently at a loss what to do. I check my IIS management console Application Pools and I see that "AppVManagement" is stopped. It's identity is W NetworkService. When I try to start it, it becomes stopped again.

Can anyone help me with how to solve this?

Thank you!

AppV Packaged failed to launch

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 08:27 AM PST

Hello,

I have a problem with the final version of AppV 5.0.

If I launch some applications, doesn't matter if newly sequenced or converted, I'm getting the error "The application failed to launch This may due to a network failure".

It allready worked fine in the beta and beta 2 version, where I have tested AppV 5.0 for our infrastructure.

I stream the packages by user, have turned on the migration mode and the shared content store.

target picture is to stream applications with AppV 5.0 on VDI and RDS Clients.

I hope somebody can help me.

Thanks

APPVManagement Database-Want to know which user in the Active Directory have access to the which APPV Packages

Posted: 04 Dec 2012 01:08 AM PST

I have three table in the APPVManagement Database

 PackageGroups

 PackageGroupsMembers

 PackageVersions

from these tables I can know which package relate to which APPV Connection Group.I have already made two Connected groups on APPV Management Console and Assign Each Package to Group.

But I want to get the Active Directory users , which user have Access to which package ?

how can I do that ?

there is one field named as "SID" in the PackageGroupEntitlements. Is this use to Map ACtive Directory Groups ?
