Microsoft releases Tech Preview of Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2 and Windows Azure Pack

At the beginning of this month, Microsoft announced the next release of their Operating Systems Windows and Management Platform System Center. At that time Microsoft announced that a Tech Preview would be supplied later that month.

The Tech Preview downloads of Windows Server 2012 R2, System Center 2012 R2 and SQL Server 2014 CTP1 are now available to both MSDN and Technet Subscribers and on Microsoft's evaluation center. No signs yet of the Tech Preview of Windows 8.1. CONTINUE READING ON CLOUDCOMPUTING.INFO…

Microsoft and Oracle announce enterprise partnership

Microsoft and Oracle today announced a partnership allowing customers to run Oracle Software, including Java, Oracle Database and Oracle WebLogic Server on top of Windows Server Hyper-V and in Windows Azure and receive full support from Oracle.

Oracle will certify and support Oracle software — including Java, Oracle Database and Oracle WebLogic Server — on Windows Server Hyper-V and in Windows Azure. Microsoft will also offer Java, Oracle Database and Oracle WebLogic Server to Windows Azure customers, and Oracle will make Oracle Linux available to Windows Azure customers.

Microsoft has released a paper titled:"Desktop Hosting Reference Architecture Guide". The paper which contains 19 pages defines a set of architectural blocks for creating a multitenant, hosted Windows desktop and application service. The primary goal is to enable hosting providers to create secure, scalable, and reliable desktop hosting solution offers for small- and medium-sized organizations with up to 1500 users.

Hyper-V Management Pack Extensions for System Center 2012 Operations Manager

Cristian Edwards and Diego Martinez Rellan both, Premier Fiel Engineers working for Microsoft have released the Hyper-V 2012 Management Pack Extension. The goal of the Management Pack Extensions is to add performance monitoring to the already existing Hyper-V Management Pack provided by Microsoft. The MP has monitors, rules and views. To avoid huge database consumption all rules are disabled by default. You can use these rules for creating your environment baselines.

The Management Pack provides the following monitoring features:

  • VMs Integration Services Version monitor
  • Hyper-V Replica Health Monitoring Dashboard and States
  • SMB Shares I/O latency monitor
  • Hyper-V Hypervisor Logical processor monitoring
  • Hyper-V Hypervisor Virtual processor monitoring

  • Hyper-V Virtual Networks monitoring
  • NUMA remote pages monitoring

Release: Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.2.14

Oracle has released a maintenance release, version 4.2.14 for its virtualization platform VM VirtualBox. The release can be installed on top of VM VirtualBox 4.2 which was released in September last year. The update can be downloaded from the VirtualBox binaries page.

Some of the fixes in this version (from the changelog):

  • GUI: fixed a crash on shutdown
  • VRDP: fixed a rare crash on the guest screen resize
  • VRDP: allow to change VRDP parameters (including enabling/disabling the server) if the VM is paused
  • Storage: fixed accessing certain VHDX images created by Windows 8
  • Windows Additions: fixed problems with partial install in the unattended case
  • Windows Additions: fixed display glitch with the Start button in seamless mode for some themes
  • Windows Additions: Seamless mode and auto-resize fixes
  • Windows Additions: fixed trying to to retrieve new auto-logon credentials if current ones were not processed yet
