Microsoft announces Big Compute capabilities for Windows Azure

Posted: 14 Nov 2012 01:01 AM PST

Microsoft yesterday announced some enhancements to Windows Azure which allow customers to run applications that require large amounts of compute power also known as Big Compute. By providing Big Compute capabilities customers can leverage the Cloud scaling capabilities to support their ever-growing need for compute power.

In order to demonstrate the capabilities Microsoft ran a LINPACK benchmark resulting in a 151.3 Tflops on 8,065 cores with 90,2 efficiency, and Microsoft therefore submitted the data to be included in the Top 500 of the world's largest supercomputers.

XenServer Introduces Live Storage Migration with Storage XenMotion

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 07:43 AM PST

Over the last several years XenServer competitors have presented several arguments against using XenServer, and often those arguments center around a feature they had which we didn't.  A perfect case in point was the issue of virtualization ROI and memory sharing.  VMware was often ready to present that vSphere had better ROI due to their abilities to balloon, share and swap memory.  Despite issues in…

Full Inf. Model: Making apps available from some SIlo's not others

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 03:14 AM PST

Hi,

Can anyone advise on how to achieve this:

We're using XenApp Published Desktop with the App-V full infrastructure.  We need to restrict users from using apps when they log into certain Desktops.

I assume we could use multiple management servers to achieve this, i.e.

Multiple App-V Mgmt Svrs
MGMT Server 1 + MGMT Server 2
All apps are published to both svr's, except the Restricted apps are not publish to MGMT Server 2.

MGMT Server 1 is configured on the App-V Client of all CTX Servers, except Restricted CTX Servers
MGMT Server 2 is configured only on the App-V Client of CTX Servers where the software is restricted.

Outcome: User can log into either desktop and only receive the applications available on those servers.

Impact:
This would become unmanageable where there are several Silo's of Published Desktops. Effectively require an additional MGMT server for each Restricted CTX silo. Or N+1 when taking into account resilience.

Can this be achieved using App-V Provider Policies or another way?
