APP-V 5.0 Management DB on SQL cluster

Posted: 04 Feb 2013 11:03 PM PST

Hi,

I need to install APP-V 5.0 management Server Database (AppVManagement) on a SQL cluster. Following is the detail of my environment:-

          1) SQL server --> SQL 2012 (2-node)

          2) Windows Server --> WS 2012

          3) APP-V  --> APP-V 5.0

I tried with running the installer on the node having the ownership for the SQL services also but failed to connect with the SQL.

I have the sysadmin rights on the SQL Server and my user is the Db owner of master and reportserver Databases. SQL server is installed with all the features on a default instance.

What I need to do to install the APP-V management DB in a clustered SQL server? In spite of having rights, the installer is not detecting the SQL instance.

Think virtual desktops make app and OS updates easier? Think again. Patching and updating virtual desktops can require more steps than physical ones.

check for updates when launching an application - App-V 5.0

Posted: 04 Feb 2013 12:54 PM PST

Hello. I have a question

1. I sequenced package, add it to the server and deployed it to the client via App-V 5.0
2. I ran the package on the client and everything's cool so far
3. I upgraded the package to a newer version add it to the server and chose to copy settings from existing package and then pressed "Apply Upgrade"
4. the next thing I did was double-clicking on the package's shortcut like I used to do on the 4.6 version and I still got the old version!

both of the versions were still published so I thought it might be the issue. I unpublished the old version and then double-clicked on the shortcut and still got the old version :/
only after I re-synced the server manually (or the server got to it's refresh interval) and ran the package - I got the new version.

so my biggest question of course is - what happened to the checking for updates when I launch a package?!
this was great on App-V 4.6 because on the second I disabled an app - the clients couldn't launch it immediately. and the same was when I added a new version of a package

I think I covered all the client registry options and didn't find the answer there :(

thanks
