Liquidware Labs: two new offerings of Stratusphere Product Line Posted: 29 Aug 2012 04:45 PM PDT Liquidware Labs, the company founded in 2008 by David Bieneman, announced yesterday August 28, at VMworld 2012 two new offerings of its VDI assessment tool Stratusphere IXD and Stratusphere Adapter. Liquid Stratusphere IXD is a solution for virtual desktop infrastructures that would enable next generation virtual desktop to  automate the design of corporate desktop gold master images, and size hosts and storage architecture. Stratusphere Adapter is a desktop metrics feed into VMware vCenter operations, it would allow IT administrators to have desktop experience in a single solution. Jason Mattox, CTO of Liquidware Labs, comments about Stratusphere IXD: Stratusphere IXD automates the process of designing key virtual desktop environment components with a very high level of accuracy. Release: AMD new FirePro S9000 and S7000 and Opteron Posted: 29 Aug 2012 04:36 PM PDT Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. or AMD, launched on August 27 FirePro S9000 and S7000 Graphics Processors. The American company officially presented at VMworld 2012 in San Francisco its latest versions for its line of graphics cards processors, created with the scope of speeding up the delivery of virtual desktops through servers. S9000 and S7000 would allow IT administrator to reduce server power consumption, with a cost reduction, for a better management of workloads of CAD and media applications.  The new chips would work efficiently with usually graphic intensive software, as well on smartphones and tablets. AMD also realesed a new version of its processor-based server ADM Opteron, designed for virtualization environments. The platform is composed by integrated modules that allows to enlarge the server security platform in order to guarantee a better security of data protection. VMware is about to join Openstack Foundation as Gold Member Posted: 29 Aug 2012 11:13 AM PDT As reported in yesterday's agenda of the OpenStack Board of Directors Meeting, VMware, alongside with Intel and NEC, applied to join OpenStack Foundation as a Gold Member. Yesterday the directors discussed whether accepting or not these new members, still an official announcement hasn't been done yet. This move could represent one of the central pieces of the puzzle that began to take shape with the acquisition of Nicira, a company specialized in software-defined networking already involved in the OpenStack Project. In fact, VMware seems to be more interested in working with OpenStack-based infrastructures than to be perceived as the main antagonist. The entry of VMware would represent a great leap forward for OpenStack Foundation from the point of view of image and, of course, economic. Gold Members will fund an amount equal to total company revenue times .025%, with a minimum of $50k and a maximum of $200k. App-V 4.5 Server: Running Software Audit report gives error 0000B065 Posted: 29 Aug 2012 06:31 AM PDT Hi, This error keeps cropping up when running the Software Audit report. You can for example get the usage data for July before the end of the month and then when the physical month goes to August you can no longer retrieve the July data and just get this error. Is this indicative of some sort of corruption in the data? I have checked the app-V server settings and it is told to keep ALL Usage data and no size limit for the DB. Release: VKernel vOPS Server Standard 6 Posted: 29 Aug 2012 09:09 AM PDT This Monday VKernel announced the general availability of vOPS Server Standard 6.0 its capacity management product for virtualized data centers and cloud environments. This release introduces unified multi-data source VM issue diagnosis, change impact modeling and, of course, VMware vCloud Director integration. Other new functionalities are: New Automation Capabilities – VMs can be powered on and off and moved from host to host. Global Virtual Object Search – A "Google-like" search field finds objects across the environment. Extended Change Analysis – Changes to hosts, clusters, and resource pools are now tracked. Analytics have been introduced to assess the risk level of environment changes. vOPS Server Standard 6.0 is now available for download and will be showcased this week at VMworld 2012 in San Francisco. Adobe Reder X file Type association issue on App-v 4.6 Sp1 Posted: 29 Aug 2012 04:46 AM PDT Hi, I have virtulazed Adobe Reader X in Out environment.  The environment is as mentioned below. Windows 2008 R2 RDS,  XenApp, App-V client 4.6 Sp1. The problem I am having is When I refresh app-V client it does recognise the new application available which is Adobe Reader X in Client console--> Application Folder. But none of its file association are getting imported into App-V client console--> File Type Associations folder. And also it does not get added in Registry under HKCU\sW\Microsoft\Softgrid\4.5\Client\Filetypes and FileExtension. I have set the logging of Verbose but still not able to find out why it is not adding any of the extension from this application. I have also installed the same package on Windows 7 local machine with MSi created from sequencer and it does add all of the PDf extension in the App-V client.
