Troubleshooting a XenDesktop Registration Failure

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 07:08 PM PDT

This morning I was presented with a case where VMs were consistently failing to register to the customer's pre-production XenDesktop site with event IDs 1018 and 1024. Having worked a few registration issues over the years, I was able to help the customer resolve the issue within about 30 minutes (thanks to a flexible pre-production environment). I was later asked by a colleague if I used any…

Office 2007 / AppV 4.6 / Win7-64bit - works on one, not another computer

Posted: 31 Aug 2009 10:44 AM PDT

Setup:
-I've had an Office 2007 sequenced for 4.5.
-I opened it back up in the 4.6 sequencer, updated the project to support 4.6 and Win7
-Re-saved out. Now it's a "4.6 package" with .MSI installer
-No server. This is a client / MSI only install

Results:
-Added to Machine1 and Machine2 (Both Win7, 64bit, AppV46 client, MSI only installs)
-Worked awesomely for a while on both machines.
-Machine 1 suddenly one day would not launch Office 2007 (Machine 2 = A-OK still.)

So, I've cleared out the App cache and MSI cache for Office 2007 and re-ran MSI.

No Office 2007 apps will run on Machine 1 now.

The basic error I get is: "Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application."

Again, I want to stress: This package was a ROCK STAR in 4.5.. works on other machines as (previous) 4.5 package. And works
on another machine as an upgraded 4.6 package on a very similar configuration. The problem is something with Machine1.

SFTlog is below from installation of MSi to running of package. Again, no servers here.. all MSI / "disconnected" mode.
Also want to stress, I'm running about 10+ other AppV apps perfectly on Machine1; they launch perfectly -- no issues at all.

So, here's my log:
- Installation
-Running Word (get error message " "Microsoft Office Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run setup to install the application.")
-Running Excel .. no error message.. see it launching first time, throws up splash screen for 1/2 second then app shuts down.. no visible errors on screen.

Baffled.

App-V 5 Client on Windows Server 2012 Session Host with 4.6 backend servers?

Posted: 18 Oct 2012 02:43 AM PDT

A client has installed a Pilot 2012 RDS System with 2 x Session Hosts and has installed most of the applications that are curerntly installed on a production 2008 R2 RDS Farm. They had problems instaling the App-V 4.6 client on the pilot system and on further investigation it seems that this is not supported in 2012?

If this is the case can they use the App-V 5 Beta client on the session hosts and still stream apps from the existing 4.6 backend servers?

Cheers for now

Russell
