Scaling Web Application Firewall in your network Posted: 21 Nov 2012 10:55 PM PST For customers that have 3rd party Web Application Firewall (WAF) but have the following pain points should look at this customer deployment that was done recently (courtesy from one of our cool Citrix SEs in the West Coast US): Once a WAF hits a limit they stop forwarding traffic Limited SSL Transactions Per Second (TPS) Need a horizontally scalable WAF sandwich If transactions are important…

New Repeater 310: Looking under the hood Posted: 21 Nov 2012 09:44 AM PST The new 310Mbps SDX appliance was created to meet customer needs in the 155Mbps to 500Mbps range, and can grow to a range of 500 Mbps to 1.0 Gbps through the Pay-to-Grow option. Customers rolling out XenDesktop projects with 600-700 simultaneous users now have the flexible capacity they need to grow at their own pace without worrying about over or under-capacity. While competitors require expensive…
Posted: 21 Nov 2012 09:31 AM PST Hi, I'm trying to setup an App-V environment in my lab. I've used the App-V 5.0 Trial guide to help me configure all necessary components. I'm able to install everything without error. when come time to publish an app, it simply doesn't show up on my client. after looking at events on the client and server, I found that the Publishing server is returning under Admin the following message. 'The request URL doesn't contain the query string for the client OS' My setup is pretty simple. App-V Server managament and Publishing on the same box App-V database on my SQL server. I'm able to see the publishing "webpage" by using http:://localhost:889. It only display this : -<Publishing Protocol="1.0" <Packages /> </Publishing> I've published one app from the management console. any idea what could mean this error? thanks This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now
Granular Application (vserver) based Role Based Access Control Posted: 21 Nov 2012 09:07 AM PST In the previous blog post, http://blogs.citrix.com/2011/12/26/using-role-based-access-controlrbac-to-securely-manage-the-netscaler-configuration/ We had looked in to how to configure the users and cmdspec so that tighter administration control can be enforced in Netscaler. In this blog, we will see a special use case to enforce tighter control in Load balancing virtual server. In today's Application centric world the ADC entities are also defined based on Application and it is represented…
App-V 5.0 x86 Client not displaying Virtual Apps Posted: 21 Nov 2012 08:32 AM PST I have setup an App-V 5.0 server and sequenced a few apps. Everything works great with the x64 client. The x86 client, however, never seems to see the Virtual Apps. I re-sequenced the app, specifying every version and architecture, but that didn't help. No errors are logged in event viewer. It looks like it refreshes normally with a 0x0 return code. I'm sure it's something simple, but I can't find it for the life of me. Please help! What’s new with Provisioning in Excalibur Posted: 21 Nov 2012 07:43 AM PST The Excalibur Technology Preview provides an early glimpse at some of the upcoming improvements to XenApp and XenDesktop. While the unification of XenDesktop and XenApp into a single deployment and management architecture and the added support for the next generation Windows operating systems are undoubtedly the most obvious changes, we've made a number of other improvements throughout the product. Among those are improvements to both…

Release: VMware vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager 1.0 Posted: 21 Nov 2012 03:26 AM PST VMware has released version 1.0 of its vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager, an optional module which is capable of managing the Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisor from vCenter. While vCenter markets the product as a Multi-Hypervisor product this version clearly targets Microsoft because it only supports the Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 hypervisors at this time. It's not clear if VMware is planning to support Windows Server 2012 which contains Hyper-V 3.0 or the Xen Hypervisor any time soon. Microsoft also provides multi-hypervisor management capabilities in its System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) product, the major difference though is that SCVMM still needs vCenter while this plugin can directly manage Hyper-V hosts without needing an SCVMM infrastructure. The vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager provides some functionality (management) from the vCenter XVP Manager and Converter on which virtualization.info reported in February last year. This fling, although still in Technical Preview status is still available from VMware as well but doesn't support vSphere 5 yet.
The Multi-Hypervisor Manager provides the following functionality:
The vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager module consists of a server component and a client component. The client component is a plug-in to the VMware vSphere Client. The vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager server is a Windows installable package, which deploys the VMware vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager service, so if you use the Linux-based virtual applicance as a vCenter Server you need to deploy a Windows Server on which you can install the Multi-Hypervisor Manager service. The plug-in is not supported for the web client though. You can install the vCenter Multi-Hypervisor Manager when you have licensed vCenter Server Standard Edition, the product is not available for the Essentials edition. More information is available in the release notes. Labels: Release, VMware |
